Thermal Paper

Thermal paper has quickly become the leading form of receipt in the point-of-sale industry. Every sector is now using some form of thermal paper, from convenience stores to restaurants to ATMs and banks and laboratories. The new technology has enabled the printing to be done not only faster and quieter, but with additional graphic capabilities, as well. Even though the conversion to thermal paper continues to grow, it does not mean that printer ribbons have or will become obsolete. Printer ribbons are still a necessity when using a carbonless receipt paper or printers in restaurant kitchens. However, when talking about thermal paper, the advantages go well beyond the speed and abilities of the printers. The new printers are typically of a plug and play format which allows repairs to be completed without the need for expensive technicians. Colored thermal paper, now an industry standard, allows for greater visibility and store image recognition. Security options, such as white imprinting, are also available on thermal paper. Although the thermal paper is more expensive than bond or carbonless paper, the price difference is easily balanced out as printer ribbons are not used in the thermal paper machines.
